BRC Public Partnership Advisory Group Member

John is a charity chair and hospital governor with a long history of involvement in healthcare.

To find out more about John and his thoughts about the involvement and engagement of patients and the public in research, we asked him some questions:

How long have you been involved in research?

Healthcare research – about 20 years.

Why do you think it is important that patients and the public are involved in the research process?

There are a few reasons. 1) To ensure that the project deliverables are something that patients and the public will benefit from. 2) To validate and receive assurances on the process, methodology and concept. 3) To engage with and inform patients and the public on current research projects, keeping them ‘in the loop’.

What do you enjoy about being involved in research?

Being informed, keeping up to date and knowing what is in the pipeline with respect to advances in healthcare and research.
