The NIHR Newcastle BRC sits at the heart of a world-class research environment across the Newcastle Hospitals, Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear (CNTW) NHS Foundation Trust and Newcastle University Partnership. This excellence was recognised by the partnership being awarded Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC) status in 2020, one of only eight centres to gain this recognition in the UK.The inclusion of CNTW in our BRC since 2022 has served to further strengthen our Partnership and build regional reach; CNTW is highly research active and hosts the NIHR ARC North East North Cumbria (NENC).
Chaired By BRC Director Avan Aihie Sayer, the BRC Strategy Group brings together Partnership leaders with BRC theme and cross cutting area leads including EDI, PPIE, Research Capacity Development, Informatics and Industry. The group also includes NIHR Regional Infrastructure Directors.
The BRC Executive Group is a sub-group of the BRC Strategy Group with delegated responsibility to allow responsive and timely for decisions making to ensure the effective running of the BRC.
Our Public Partnership Advisory Group (PPAG) brings together public contributors from across our research themes, along with representatives from community organisations. This group is a key part of our BRC governance, bringing patient, carer and public perspectives to our research.
Independent assessment of progress against overall BRC aims and objectives is provided by an International Scientific External Advisory Group (EAG). This will include consideration of potential impact on national health and wealth.
