Dr Paul Donaghy is an MRC Clinician Scientist Fellow at Newcastle University and Honorary Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist at Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust. His research interests include:

  • Improving the diagnosis of dementia with Lewy bodies, particularly in the prodromal stage.
  • Understanding the role of inflammation in dementia with Lewy bodies.
  • Understanding psychiatric presentations of neurodegenerative diseases.

Dr Donaghy’s research aims to improve the diagnosis and treatment of people with dementia. His work uses clinical cohorts and clinicopathological research studies to better understand disease pathophysiology and the clinical and biological relevance of fluid and imaging biomarkers.
