NIHR Newcastle BRC PhD Student
Lucy completed her MSci in Biochemistry at Newcastle University and then went on to work in industry for 3 years. She worked for a pharmaceutical company, focussed on pre-clinical drug development, which allowed her to develop her professional and lab skills.
After deciding she wanted more freedom to do her own research, she is now a PhD student based in the Metabolic Neurodegeneration Lab, working with Dr Daniel Erskine. Her project is looking at protein pathologies and mitochondrial dysfunction in dementia with Lewy bodies, and aims to determine what correlates best with clinical decline so that therapies can be developed against the most effective pathway. This is important as there are currently no disease-modifying treatments for dementia with Lewy bodies.
