Dr Victoria Wing

NIHR Clinical Lecturer

Dr Victoria Wing is an NIHR Clinical Lecturer at Newcastle University and Higher Trainee in General Adult Psychiatry, currently working in the Regional Affective Disorders Service (RADS) and Plummer Court Addictions Service in Cumbria Northumberland Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust.

Dr Wing completed a PhD in preclinical psychopharmacology at Newcastle University and postdoctoral fellowship in the co-morbidity of addiction in schizophrenia at the University of Toronto. She then undertook her medical degree and foundation training at Imperial College London, before returning to Newcastle to complete psychiatry training and join the Northern Centre for Mood Disorders. Here her research focuses on optimising response to psychopharmacological treatments of severe mental illness, and as a member of Team Lithium she studies lithium for mood disorders and new applications in neurodegenerative conditions. This works integrates pharmacokinetic modelling, response biomarkers and novel lithium magnetic resonance imaging with stakeholder involvement and co-production to ensure scientific advances are translated into clinical services.

Dr Wing teaches and supervises dissertation research projects on the BSc Pharmacology, Masters of Pharmacy and MRes in Neuroscience Courses at Newcastle University, and is lead for the Neuroscience and Psychopharmacology module on the MRCPsych Teaching Course for psychiatry trainees in CNTW. She  is also an active member of the British Association of Psychopharmacology (BAP) teaching on the Clinical Certificate in Affective Disorders and Masterclass Courses, and sits on the Royal College of Psychiatrists Psychopharmacology Committee.
