Laboratory Research Specialist and PhD Student under the BRC Liver Theme

Enthusiastic research scientist with a focus on liver cancer and specialist hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) knowledge. I am currently a laboratory research specialist at the Newcastle University Centre for Cancer, working for Prof Helen Reeves on the liver cancer team as part of the Translational and Clinical Research Institute. I also work closely with the liver fibrosis group at the Institute of Cellular Medicine under Profs Fiona Oakley and Derek Mann.

As Prof Reeves’ senior scientist, I am currently involved in multiple projects with international collaborators. Most of the research I am involved in is biomarker related, ranging from novel biomarker identification to assay design for optimising basic science to clinical translation. My work generally includes human biobank HCC blood and tissue samples collection and organisation for research into patient-stratifying biomarkers, whether they be circulating, tissue, DNA or RNA related.

I am currently undertaking a Research PhD “Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) Hepatocellular Carcinoma- defining clinically relevant tools”. The aim of my PhD is to look at various physical characteristics and lifestyle factors that work with genetic susceptibilities leading to the development of liver cancer. My goal is to set up a basis for natural lifestyle intervention for patients living with liver cancer to optimise health during cancer therapies.
