NIHR Newcastle BRC PhD Student

Aye's background is in Clinical Neurology. She is a registered neurology trainee in Northern Deanery. She moved to UK from Myanmar in 2012 after obtaining M., B,B, S degree and joined the internal medical training programme. She joined higher specialist training programme in Neurology in 2019 after completing MRCP exams. She is currently working as a research associate, while pursuing a doctoral degree and developing her subspecialty interest in Mitochondrial and Neuro-genetic conditions. Her PhD research investigates the clinical manifestations of brain involvement in primary mitochondrial diseases, focusing on how these conditions affect daily living. Her research aims to understand the full range of these clinical manifestations, highlighting thechallenges that individuals with mitochondrial diseases face in managing both motor and cognitive functions in daily life. Aye's long-term career goal is to become an established clinical academic neurologist with expertise in Mitochondrial and Neurogenetic diseases who can make contributions to the research community in these areas.
