NIHR Newcastle BRC PhD Student

Hannah is a first year NIHR Newcastle BRC PhD student in Liver Research. After qualifying as a Podiatrist in 2011, Hannah worked in various roles across Northumberland including; home visits, GP clinics and specialist diabetic wound clinics.Hannah completed an MSc in Health Studies in 2017 and pursued her interest in community research and reducing health inequalities working as an agile researcher. She is focused on increasing access to research in under-served communities, which led her to be involved and interested in the area of liver disease.Rates of premature death from alcohol related liver disease and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) are significantly higher in the North of England, and the rates are increasing across England. The SOLID study aims to facilitate the implementation of a fibrosis pathway as part of standard care, working collaboratively between primary and secondary care in the local area.Hannah is an advocate for Allied Health Professionals working in research and provides assistance on delivery of research projects across the region.
