Professor Stuart McPherson is a Consultant Hepatologist and Head of Department for Liver Medicine at the Newcastle Liver Unit. He is also an Honorary Professor of Hepatology Practice in the Translational and Clinical Research Institute, Newcastle University. He has a strong research interest aiming to improve the care of patients with liver disease.
Stuart is actively conducting research to improve clinical care pathways for patients with viral hepatitis, cirrhosis and steatotic liver disease to identify and treat these diseases at an early stage to prevent patients developing advanced liver disease. He has been a principle investigator for multiple clinical trials assessing new treatments for liver disease and has published more than 100 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals.
Professor McPherson is the Chief Investigator for the SOLID study, which is evaluating the use of liver fibrosis biomarkers in primary care with the aim for developing a clinically and cost effective pathway to identify patients with significant liver disease.
