Dr Tejal Shah is a Lecturer in Informatics in the School of Computing at Newcastle University and serves as Responsible Innovation Director of the EPSRC National Edge AI Hub. Her interdisciplinary background in dentistry, health informatics, and computer science has shaped her research at the intersection of digital health, IoT, and AI. She specialises in knowledge representation and reasoning in complex, data-rich, and safety-critical environments, such as healthcare, with a particular focus on using ontologies and symbolic reasoning to help autonomous systems make context-aware, transparent, and justifiable decisions thereby supporting the development of safe, explainable, and trustworthy AI systems.
