The consortium has been funded 1.2 million euro for three years, under the Joint Programming Initiative ‘Healthy Diet for a Healthy Life’, to run the APPETITE project. Bringing together researchers across six countries, it aims to improve understanding of the influences on appetite in older age, and to design and develop strategies that will prevent undernutrition.
The UK arm of this collaborative research is led by Newcastle University Professors Sian Robinson and Avan Sayer. The project will involve working alongside older consumers to design preventive approaches, and the development and testing of innovative plant-based food products.
Consortium partners are due to meet digitally over the next weeks to discuss plans for the study, more details on Newcastle’s involvement will follow.
