The NIHR Newcastle BRC trainees, who come from a range of biomedical science and allied health partnership backgrounds, assembled at a digital event to share their research and interact with the public.
In line with corona-virus restrictions, the event took the form of online presentations, breakout rooms and a section which highlighted the value of Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) to the NIHR Newcastle BRC. Trainees also engaged a social media audience with Twitter poster-style presentations of their research, using the hashtag #NIHRNewctraining20 to link to the event.
BRC Training Lead, Dr Ellen Tullo commented:
We had a lively event that brought together our trainees with a public audience, whilst also making the most of social media for wider engagement.
As a BRC, we were keen to adapt in order to keep this event in place. We’re proud of our trainees for their flexibility and willingness to trial alternative formats adapting to this format, especially while facing other challenges to their research due to coronavirus.
We’re also very grateful to the members of the public who joined the event and continue to support our trainees in making their work more accessible to a wide audience.
