Professor Muzlifah Haniffa and Professor Quentin M Anstee, both theme leads for NIHR Newcastle Biomedical Resource Centre (BRC), are listed in Clarivate’s internationally-recognised Highly Cited Researchers 2022 list of the ‘world’s most influential researchers.’
Professor Haniffa leads the Skin and Oral Disease research theme and is Professor of Dermatology and Immunology at Newcastle University, as well as a Wellcome Trust Senior Research Fellow in Clinical Science, and a Lister Institute Prize Fellow.
It is the first time on the list for Professor Quentin M Anstee, who leads on the BRC Liver Disease theme. He is Professor of Experimental Hepatology at Newcastle University and a practising clinician. He is an Honorary Consultant Hepatologist in the Liver Unit with the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where he leads one of the largest Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) clinical services in the UK.

The influence of those included in the listings is measured by the production of multiple highly-cited research papers that rank in the top 1% by citations in the Web of Science – a global database of citations which is independent of research publishers.
