Join us at our free, hybrid event to find out more.

Format: Hybrid (in-person attendance strongly encouraged)

Research is everybody’s business: academic opportunities for clinical trainees’ is an event aimed at medical, surgical and dental trainees in the Health Education England North East (HEENE) region.

It will showcase the wide range of opportunities available for trainees to get involved in research, with an emphasis on non-traditional routes into clinical academic careers and supporting clinical trainees to become research active in their NHS roles.

We are delighted to have Dr Amaani Hussain, NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow in Dermatology chair a panel discussion with clinical trainees who became researchers. Dr Ken Baker, Dr Jonathan Bunn, Dr Tiago Costa, Dr Dave Edwards and Dr Hudaa Gopee will share their journeys that were often non-traditional routes into clinical academia. We are also delighted to welcome contributions from:

  • Dr Richard Bellamy, Director of Speciality Training, North East
  • Professor David Jones OBE, Director of NHIP Academy
  • Dr Arthur Pratt, Clinical Senior Lecturer and Research Capacity Development Lead at the NIHR Newcastle BRC
  • Professor Avan Aihie Sayer, Director of the NIHR Newcastle BRC, who will share their insights into academic medical careers and building research activity into medical training.

Whilst this is a hybrid event, in-person attendance is strongly encouraged to take advantage of meeting with new colleagues and networking over lunch from 12:30 – 13:30.

Attendance is free but registration is essential.
