Leading interdisciplinary translational medicine

The Association of Physicians of Great Britain and Ireland’s Annual Meeting (APAM) will take place on 23-24 May 2024 at the Frederick Douglass Centre (FDC), Newcastle University. Professor Chris Day CBE, Vice-Chancellor and President of Newcastle University said:

We are very much looking forward to welcoming you all to our wonderful city to hear about the latest in translational medicine with a Newcastle ‘flavour'.

Dr Karen Sutterlin, Clinical Lecturer and Emerging Leader of the Ageing, Sarcopenia and Multimorbidity research theme at the NIHR Newcastle Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) and Dr Helen Devine, NUAcT Clinical Research Fellow are co-leading the Emerging Clinical Researchers’ Workshop at the APAM. There will be an enriching programme designed by Early Career Researchers (ECRs) for ECRs, kicking off with a networking breakfast, an opportunity to sign up for a mentoring session with the North East England Mentoring Organisation and inspiring talks through the morning.

The workshop will also include a panel discussion with leaders from the NHS, MRC and NIHR among others on ‘strategies to support the next generation of clinical academics’. Attendees will have the opportunity to submit questions in advance for this session and an opportunity to shape key issues. Attendees will be asked to prioritise the questions in order to highlight issues to leaders in the field and hear their strategies to approach them.
